Samuel Eto'o's statement following the CAF election

On March 12, 2025, Samuel Eto’o was elected by acclamation to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee during the CAF Congress in Cairo.

In his statement following the election, Eto’o expressed deep gratitude to the delegates, stating: “Dear delegates, it is a great honor for me. I sincerely thank you. Your unanimous vote expresses your confidence in my modest abilities and the consideration.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe addressed Eto’o’s election, expressing strong support and emphasizing his pride in the former football star. Motsepe highlighted the importance of uniting Cameroonian football and expressed his commitment to supporting Eto’o in his new role.

Eto’o’s election to the CAF Executive Committee marks a significant milestone, making him the second former footballer, after Kalusha Bwalya of Zambia, to serve on the committee.
