Assad took power in 2000 after his father had controlled the country for over three decades. The one so powerful Assad’s father died and his son took over power in the 2000s. Assad inherited the regime when his father died in the year 2000’.
It is believed he jailed the opposition and tried to rule his people with force but this cannot be easily verifiable because the people or we can say not everyone will love you. Some will hate while some will love. Such is life.
After his death, his son who was trained as a doctor in Europe returned home to take over power as there was a power vacuum. Tony Blair and other Western leaders came for a visit to see the new president and have some alliances.
A year later Assad who grew up in London and his wife took over power and consolidated their rule over Syria. They also met the queen. Things never went as expected since to rule it requires some strategic alliances.
Many Syrians demanded the fall of the regime in 2011 during the Arab uprising but never succeeded since Russia and Iran backed up Assad. The USA took the Oil field without the Syrian government’s approval.
He declared that foreigners were trying to destroy Syria and declared war on the rebels some of whom were terrorists. Assad regime has now been toppled and he has been granted asylum in Russia.
